In Baroville, at the gateway to the Champagne vineyards, the Espace Naturel “Derrière le Moulin” invites you to slow down and observe, breathe and understand. Set in 2,400 m² of unspoilt countryside, this green setting has been designed as a place of contemplation, discovery and awareness of local biodiversity.
Open to all, it’s as much for the curious passer-by as for nature lovers in search of reconnection.
Exceptional biodiversity at your fingertips
It is also a refuge for numerous animal species: insects, birds, reptiles… These rare and fragile natural environments are now recognized as one of the major reservoirs of biodiversity in northern France.
An open-air educational trail
The area has been designed to offer visitors a sensory and educational experience. Educational panels along the way reveal the wealth of local flora and fauna, and explain the essential role these environments play in the region’s ecological balance.
Designed with experts from the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Champagne-Ardenne, this trail invites young and old to take the time to observe and understand.
Eco-responsible furnishings
and warmth
In keeping with its commitment to sustainable development, the Maison de BARFONTARC has chosen recycled materials and reused elements to furnish this space. Old stirring desks have found a second life as windbreaks, pallets have become seats, and large wooden pergolas house tables ideal for taking a break in the heart of nature.
Every detail has been designed to respect the environment while offering a warm and comfortable welcome.
A collective project
This site is the fruit of a close collaboration between the BARFONTARC cooperative and committed local players. The commune of Baroville, the Département de l’Aube, the Association Aster Alba, the Côte des Bar Tourist Office, the Agence Départementale du Tourisme and the Mission Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne have all contributed to making this space a fine project for the preservation and enhancement of natural heritage.
A name full of meaning,
between terroir and heritage
L’Espace Naturel “Derrière le Moulin” shares its name with one of the House’s signature cuvées: our vintage Blanc de Blancs. This cuvée takes its name from the vineyard “Derrière le Moulin”, located in the immediate vicinity of the Espace Naturel. Through this name, a link is forged between land, wine and nature: an exceptional terroir whose richness inspires both our winemaking expertise and our commitment to preserving the living world.
