A wonderful terroir
The Maison de BARFONTARC is a cooperative of 54 winegrowing families, who tend around 130 hectares of vines in eight villages around Baroville: Arconville, Arsonval, Baroville, Dolancourt, Fontaine, Montier-en-l’Isle, Rouvres-les-Vignes and Trannes. In this part of the Côte des Bar – the southernmost vineyard in the Champagne appellation, the marl and clay-limestone soils are ideal for Pinot Noir, the region’s predominant grape variety. Champagne de BARFONTARC is no exception: 90% of its vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir and 10% with Chardonnay.

For many years now, Maison de BARFONTARC has been practising sustainable viticulture. It is committed to the High Environmental Value (HVE) certification and currently 80% of its members’ vineyards bear the Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne label. The winemakers of de BARFONTARC benefit from daily professional support from the Maison’s technicians as they continue on this path.

As it has cooperative status, Maison de BARFONTARC receives a wonderful variety of different grapes, which means it can compose its blends in many different ways. This variety also means it can produce wines of a consistently high quality. The cellar master and his teams love working on creating wines with different profiles. Maison de BARFONTARC is equipped with ultra-modern production facilities, and is constantly updated. This cutting-edge equipment serves to respect ancestral know-how, and ensures that the teams showcase all the characteristics of the local terroir. These shared facilities mean that multiple identities can be expressed.
Its modern cellars can hold several million bottles
While tools and techniques are important, time also plays a major role in champagne vinification. That’s why de BARFONTARC puts such high value on patience, ageing all its Essentielles and Signatures vintage cuvées for extended periods.
